  • Sinai Local Impact |

EMBAH is committed to the elements of responsible & sustainable tourism, and this tour boasts multiple benefits to the local community. While travelling in the Desert & Mountainous regions of Sinai, work opportunities and therefore income is distributed between multiple desert dwelling families. Wherever possible we purchase local produce, encourage souvenir purchase from the Bedouin women and use local homes for meals. The projects we support in this region are:

    • Nawamis Desert School | An initiative developed by a UK charity that was brought about to enable the Bedouin villagers to remain in their desert homes and maintain their traditional way of life and still have their children educated. It also provides a special meeting place where Bedouin tribes can gather and celebrate.

    • Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Gardens | a local initiative to preserve Rare medicinal plants unique to the region. Herbs gardens have been created on various plots in land throughout St Catherine’s and are also cultivated in greenhouses for preserving biodiversity, research and for sale.

Our EMBAH tour leader will be waiting to welcome you upon arrival at Cairo International airport. Private transfer to the center of Cairo and check in hotel on B&B basis. Free time to explore or relax after your journey. Overnight at Cairo hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel we shall depart at 08:00 and transfer by coach to Abu Zenaima, just south of the Ahmed Humdi tunnel, which crosses under the Suez Canal. Then we shall change over into 4x4 jeep, to start the first leg of your desert adventure, to our first nights camp at Wadi Baba (7hrs). Once off road we drive to camp approx 25km in land. It is at this point that we enter, what is described in biblical references as the “The vast and terrible wilderness”. Wadi Baba with it’s ancient reference of Elim: Is one of the valley’s that is mentioned within the Torah, that was travelled by Moses and his people, when crossing into the land of Sinai. Dinner is prepared and served around the camp fire for your first night sleeping under the stars.
Camp is packed away after a hearty breakfast and we start our jeep discovery through Wadi Mattallah with it’s amazing panoramic view of Serabit el Khadem Mountain. Explore the area loaded with historical reference to the Pharaoh of ancient Egypt visiting turquoise mines and climbing to the temple of Isis Hathor. Evening dinner and camp at the foot of the mountain sharing stories around a crackling campfire.
After breakfast all equipment is loaded onto camels and we start the trek heading east to Wadi Humeir, a large valley rich with minerals and red in colour. The trek to our location for lunch will take approx 3hrs. Next stop is the Forest of Pillars, an area of volcanic residue, leaving the rock sticking out of the land like stalagmites. A total of 6hrs trekking at approx 1000m above sea level. Overnight desert camp at Fuga.
Still retaining our ritual of rising with the sun, after breakfast we spend some of the morning exploring the area of Fuga, and continue our trek southwards. Crossing the pass at Ghuraba and into the valley. The landscape changes at this point as the cliffs and rugged volcanic rock merge with limestone valley. Reaching the top of Wadi Khudra the panoramic view over the valley floor laid out in front, is a magnificent spot to rest and contemplate. A total of 6hrs trekking throughout the day. Overnight desert camp at Shurifit el Khudra with it’s amazing view point making a perfect opportunity for stargazing.
After breakfast we move on down the valley of Khudra a great and mighty valley descending south, with it’s sandstone mountains and soft sand desert floor. Lunch will be taken on location within the valley and evening camp set up the end length. Approx 5hrs to cross.
Taking a southern route we trek into the entrance of Wadi Zalaga, one of the largest valleys, crossing the valley to start a climb up Mt El Gunna (3hr trek). After lunch we climb the 300m to reach the summit, 1600m above sea level, an excellent vantage point for viewing South Sinai mountain range. We descend the mountain (2hrs) and set up camp for your last night sleeping under a blanket of stars.
Our final day of trekking will take us down through the rolling sandy hills of Shagira, to the point where we meet the transport to take us to Dahab. Arrival in Dahab approx 2pm, leaving enough time to check in to the hotel, take a refreshing long shower and enjoy some of the activities on offer in Dahab. Your hotel is set right in the shores of the Red Sea, so the opportunity is right there for an underwater discovery, snorkeling or scuba diving. Evening spent exploring Dahab and possible shopping for souvenirs.
After breakfast, we shall start our return transfer to Cairo, stopping off for lunch en-route. Time of departure from Dahab will depend on flight times. Drop off at Cairo International Airport for your return flight home.
